Heathrow PR Stunt Wars: Samsung Vs. Lumia Escalates Yet Again

This Heathrow Tech PR War Is Getting Out Of Hand

First Samsung announced it was totally rebranding Heathrow Terminal 5 by adding a "Galaxy S" in the appropriate spot.

Then it turned out Heathrow wasn't quite sure the stunt was going that far.

Now Microsoft Mobile has weighed in with its own 'hilarious' take on the ongoing PR nightmare that is the Terminal 5 concourse.

Over at its blog the Lumia wags have detailed how they sent four 'Lumianauts" (who we hope were employees, not interns) down to the airport this weekend to prove some kind of point or other.

The idea, we gather, is that since Lumia phones have already been sent to space, the 'Lumianauts' were trying to get on a plane to the 'Galaxy' because that's what the Samsung signs imply, if you're an idiot.

Of course, no such plane exists - hence the, er, hilarity.

"Microsoft Devices gathered the excited Luminauts early in the morning to head to the airport in their brand new space-buggy. With one small step out of the moon-lander and a leap through the doors of Terminal 5, the Lumianauts set out to find the gate that would shoot them out of the world’s gravitational atmosphere and into the Milky Way.

"Once the brave Lumianauts stepped foot in to the brand new terminal, though, they quickly learned that there was no such thing as a flights to ‘the Galaxy’. Rather, the terminal had taken over by advertising for another mobile phone company. With constellation map in-hand they bowed their heads in disappointment and rang HQ, “Microsoft…we have a problem."

Alas, it appears that the Lumia guys have achieved nothing except a bit of press mainly focusing on how lame their joke really was.

We're sure HTC is planning its own Terminal One-based chicanery for later this week. We cannot wait.
