'Only Fools And Horses': David Jason Rules Out Revival, Saying: 'I Don't Think There's Anybody Else That Could Do It'

'I Don't Think There's Anybody Else That Could Do It'

Sir David reprised his role as Del Boy to star in a one-off sketch alongside 'Only Fools' star Nicholas Lyndhurst, who plays Rodney and guest star David Beckham.

David Jason appeared on Wednesday's 'Lorraine'

But during an interview on 'Lorraine' on Wednesday, the actor explained he only did it because the sketch had been created by the late 'Only Fools And Horses' writer John Sullivan, who died in 2011.

"The thing that happened with [the Sport Relief episode], it was a script that John Sullivan was working on with his son," he explained. "It was a Sullivan script. John Sullivan was a one off, he wrote those characters and there isn’t anybody else I don’t think that could do it.”

The 'Touch Of Frost' star also said he believed that many modern day actors come into the industry for different reasons than he did when he started out.

“When I started I was in rep, it was to me like a religion that I had to be an actor, that’s all I wanted.

"Fame and fortune, if it came along, that would be great but that wasn’t the reason for doing it.

"Whereas today I think we have a slightly different aspect because it’s all about fame and it’s all about riches and success.

"Magazines, papers and television to a certain extent, are always advertising the glamour and the wealth of it all and it doesn’t tell us about the journey of just doing it.”

David also spoke about his close friend and mentor, Ronnie Barker, who he starred with in 'Open All Hours', which has recently been revived by the BBC and sees David reprising his role as Granville.

"Not only was Ronnie a great actor but one of his skills was, he made it look easy… that was his gift.

"He gave us such a lot of pleasure and me particularly because what you see with Ronnie was what you got.

"He was clever, he was funny and he was warm-hearted and you put those three elements together and you’ve got a pretty nice guy.”
