Sean Gleeson has shown off horrific pictures of the eye injury he suffered in a nightclub assault which has forced him to end his rugby league career at the age of 25.
Pictures taken shortly after the attack show Gleeson in his hospital bed with his right eye swollen and dry blood on his face.
The Hull Kingston Rovers player tweeted: “These are the injuries from assault #dogs #ruinedmylife."
Gleeson added in a statement: "It is with saddened regret that I have made the decision to retire from the great sport of rugby league."
No one has been charged despite police releasing CCTV footage of the attack.
Two men aged 21 and 24 were arrested on suspicion of assault and released on bail until later this month.
