Luke Shaw 'Told Southampton He Wanted Manchester United Transfer'

Shaw Knows Where He Is Going, But Where?

Luke Shaw is reported to have told Southampton he wanted to join Manchester United on the final day of the Premier League season.

Shaw, 18, started in the Saints' 1-1 home draw with United as they ended the campaign one place below the Reds in eighth, and afterwards told the club he had his heart set on a move to Old Trafford, according to the BBC.

United made a £27 million offer hours following the final whistle at St Mary's, and Shaw is expected to complete his Old Trafford move after the World Cup.

Shaw could be United's prime left-back for the next 15 years

Shaw's family were keen for him to join United, rather than his boyhood club Chelsea, despite Ashley Cole's departure from Stamford Bridge.

Cole was dislodged from England's World Cup squad by Shaw, who will deputise for Leighton Baines in Brazil. The teenage left-back started in last week's draw with Ecuador to win his second cap.

Former United manager David Moyes worked extensively on a deal for Shaw, who is the only player of the prospective signings Moyes had lined up that successor Louis van Gaal is happy to sign.

Shaw will be mentored by United's faltering, yet experienced left-back Patrice Evra, whose contract included a one-year extension that was automatically triggered ahead of its expiration date.
