Mortal Kombat is back - turns out no matter how many times you rip out a guy's spinal cord and throttle him with it, he just keeps coming back for more.

Mortal Kombat X is in development for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and though we don't have word on a release date it looks like a dramatic, brutal reinvention of the classic side-by-side beat-em up.

The trailer shows a couple of new characters, as well as a straightforward brawl between series regulars Sub-Zero and Scorpion.

The trailer shows how the game will let players make and use weapons from the arena environment, and also how you can crush bones mercilessly, and probably remove spleens, tongues and participate or be on the receiving end of other acts of butchery.
