Dappy has been found guilty of assaulting a man in a nightclub.

The former N-Dubz star and ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ runner-up - real name Dino Costas Contostavlos - denied attacking George Chittock in the early hours of February 27, but has now been found guilty following a two-day trial at Chelmsford Magistrates Court.

Dappy had previously claimed during his questioning that he was acting in self-defence after being called a “mug”, to which prosecutor Jacqueline Carey responded: “It is no defence for anybody, celebrity or otherwise, to say, ‘I lashed out because he was rude to me’.”

She added: “When the defendant lashed out, he was not under any threat or any perceived threat of violence. The CCTV suggests he had no genuine and honest belief that he needed to use force to defend himself.”

Magistrates have now retired to consider sentencing.

Dappy’s fellow ‘CBB’ housemate Jim Davidson attended the first day of the star’s trial to lend his support, telling reporters outside the court room: “Dappy is a good friend of mine. We became close on ‘Big Brother’. I don't know what's happened in this case but I'm just here to show him my support.”

Meanwhile, his former bandmate Tulisa is currently facing her own assault charges, after celebrity blogger Savvas Morgan accused her of attacking him backstage at last year’s V Festival.
