Chelsea have reached an agreement with Atlético Madrid for the transfer of striker Diego Costa after triggering his £32 million buy-out clause.

Costa, 25, has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this calendar year and will become the club's second summer signing following the £27 million arrival of his international teammate Cesc Fàbregas.

Although he endured a miserable World Cup with La Roja Costa was prolific for Atlético, scoring 36 goals as the Rojiblancos won their first La Liga title since 1996 and reached the Champions League final.

The Brazilian-born forward, who was loaned to four clubs during his two stints at the Vicente Calderón, thrived in the absence of Radamel Falcao after his £50m move to Monaco last summer.

Costa struck the winner at Chelsea in the clubs' semi-final second leg from the penalty spot and should finally ease manager José Mourinho's striker concerns.

Mourinho lamented Chelsea didn't boast a "killer" striker up front last season as they finished third behind champions Manchester City and Liverpool, despite beating both teams home and away.

Ahead of Chelsea's Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain in France, the Portuguese was overheard saying: "I have a team but no striker. It is not possible for us to win the Premier League." Mourinho also joked Cameroonian centre forward Samuel Eto'o was older than he claimed he was.

Eto'o, Fernando Torres nor Demba Ba hit double-figures in the Premier League last season as talismanic Belgian Eden Hazard top scored with 14. Romelu Lukaku enjoyed a decent loan spell at Everton however Mourinho was not shy in criticising him either.
