A pregnant woman is recovering after falling onto railway tracks and under a train.

The unnamed mum-to-be, who is six months pregnant, had a miraculous escape after falling onto the tracks at a subway station in Beijing.

The arriving train managed to stop with inches to spare, but passed over her as it came to a stop.

The accident happened at around 8am during the morning rush hour, when the woman fainted and fell onto the tracks as a train arrived at the platform.

The driver slammed on the emergency brakes, but witnesses feared the worst when the train appeared to pass over the woman.

However, the train actually stopped with just a metre to spare and the uninjured woman was able to crawl out from under the very front of the train.

Workers switched off the power and she was pulled to safety.

According to the Beijing Times, the woman was taken to a nearby hospital and was treated for minor injuries.

Her unborn baby was not harmed, but the woman was advised to stay in hospital for further checks.
