Ariana Grande has become the first music act to top the UK singles chart since the rules were changed to allow streaming to count towards a song’s ranking, with her new single ‘Problem’.

The song serves as Ariana’s first ever number one single here in the UK, and also marks the first time Iggy Azalea - who does a feature rap on the track - has topped the chart too.

The decision to allow streaming to count towards the Official Singles Chart was a controversial one, with some worrying the measure could easily mean that people could make songs chart more deliberately through Facebook and Twitter campaign.

However those critics can breathe a sigh of relief, as ‘Problem’ would have still topped the chart even without the new streaming rules.

The Official Charts Company have revealed that of the song’s 113,000 sales, 106,000 of those were digital downloads.

'Problem' was stramed online 712,000 times in the week according to the data, which equates to 7,000 'sales'.

The song toppled former ‘X Factor’ star Ella Henderson from the top of the chart, with her hit ‘Ghost’ slipping into second place.

Here in Blighty, Ariana is still relatively unknown, though she's already incredibly popular in her native USA.

Her second album, ‘My Everything’, which features collaborations with Zedd, Ryan Tedder and even Harry Styles, is due out later this year and we think she could be on the cusp of a surge in popularity.

To prepare you for that, we’ve rounded up nine facts you need to know about the US pop sensation...
