Nico Rosberg Signs New Long-Term F1 Contract With Mercedes

Nico's Great Week: Wedding, World Cup And New Mercedes Deal

Make hay whilst the sun shines is the old saying and Nico Rosberg has certainly enjoyed a great week as he prepares for Sunday's German Grand Prix with the announcement he has signed a new deal with Mercedes.

Just five days after retiring in the British Grand Prix allowing team-mate Lewis Hamilton to close the gap in the championship, Rosberg shrugged off his disappointment when he and long-term girlfriend Vivian Sibold tied the knot in Monaco. The couple have been together for 11 years.

Only a few days later, Rosberg was celebrating Germany's win in the World Cup final although Hamilton, who cheekily questioned his rival's German credentials recently, might have something to say about that.

And on Wednesday Mercedes announced they had agreed a "multi-year contract extension" with the 29-year-old.

Rosberg has won six races and had 18 podium finishes since moving to Mercedes five year ago and Toto Wolff, the head of motorsport for the team, is thrilled to have secured his man's services for the future.

"Nico has been part of the Silver Arrows project since day one and he has had a big stake in the development of the team since 2010," he said.

"His speed, commitment and focus have all helped to give clear direction and to drive the team forward. With his performances in 2014, Nico has demonstrated to the outside world what we knew already in the team; that he is one of the very top drivers in Formula One.

"This new contract brings us important stability and continuity for the future and I am delighted to be able to make the announcement in time for the home race of Mercedes-Benz and Nico in Hockenheim."

Not a bad few days at all. Can he keep it going at Hockenheim?
