Yes, this week's Darwin Award goes to the man in Seattle who caused $60,000 worth of damage to his home after he tried to get rid of a spider in a most unorthodox manner.
According to Komo News, the man found the creature in his laundry room - and when it tried to escape into a wall, he used a can of spray paint and an igniter to set said wall on fire. (As you do. If you're a contender for a Darwin Award.)
"There are safer, more effective ways to kill a spider than using fire," said Kyle Moore of the Seattle Fire Department. "Fire is not the method to use to kill a spider."
Well, indeed. And the spider? "I'm pretty sure the spider did not survive this fire," added Moore. "The whole wall went."
