UK budget airline easyJet has axed its Israel flights for tomorrow, but British Airways is carrying on its twice-daily London-Tel Aviv services. BA flew to Israel today but easyJet cancelled its flights following a strong recommendation by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to stop flying to the war-torn Middle East country.
Tonight easyJet said it would not be operating its Thursday services between European bases and Tel Aviv. The scrapped flights include services from Gatwick, Manchester and Luton airports. Air France and Lufthansa of Germany did not fly their Israel routes today while some US carriers have also suspended services following an instruction from the US Federal Aviation Administration. This followed a rocket landing close to Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv.
EasyJet said: "We are continuing to review our operations to and from Israel on a day-by-day basis taking into account the advice from all relevant authorities. We will do all we can to look after our passengers. We will try to provide suitable and secure hotel accommodation for affected passengers and will fly affected passengers home as soon as we can. For those who are booked to travel to and from Tel Aviv within the next 14 days and no longer wish to, we will allow them to change their flight dates via our contact centre.
A BA spokeswoman said: "We are carrying on with our Israeli services."
