With the Commonwealth Games 2014 well and truly underway, Olympic silver medalist Keri-Anne Payne has shared her top training tips for open-water swimming.

And with 18 years of solid training under her belt, there are few others better placed to share their expertise.

From keeping hydrated to streamlining your swim, her suggestions will help swimmers whether training for a race or simply trying to get back into regular exercise.

"Whether you're swimming in the pool or in open water, getting your technique right can be half the battle," says the 26-year-old in the video above.

Keri-Anne, who decided to step back from competitive swimming last summer, is taking part in the British Gas SwimBritain challenge this September in Blenheim Palace.
