Benedict Cumberbatch's ‘Hamlet' Becomes Most In-Demand Theatre Production Of All-Time As Fans Rush To Buy Tickets

Benedict Is Officially More In Demand Than Beyoncé

The Barbican’s production of ‘Hamlet’, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the Prince Of Denmark, has become the most in-demand theatre production of all time, according to Viagogo.

Tickets for the show’s limited 12-week run - which doesn’t begin until August 2015 - went on general sale on Monday 11 August.

Within minutes, thousands of fans stormed the Barbican's website hoping to nab tickets, making it the most in-demand theatre show ever.

So far, ‘Hamlet’ is beating Beyoncé and Jay Z's On The Run tour when it comes to online searches, as more than 214 per cent more people have been searching for tickets to see Benedict in action, according to Viagogo.

After booking opened at 10am, an online queue left many potential ticket-buyers frustrated as they found themselves waiting behind over 10,000 other hopeful fans.

Naturally, while many Twitter users shared their stress, a few still managed to see the funny side…

At present, the Barbican’s official website states that all seats in the stalls, circle and upper circle have sold out for the entire run, leaving just a handful of seats in the Gallery available.

Fans will have a second chance to nab tickets in 2015, when 100 seats for each performance will be on sale for £10 each.

Those not lucky enough to be seeing Benedict tread the boards can still get their fix next year, when ‘Sherlock’ returns.

Later this year, he’ll star in ‘The Imitation Game’ alongside Keira Knightley before return as Smaug the Dragon in the final installment of ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy.
