'Shadow Realms' is trending - but unless you read video games website you might not know why.

You will soon enough - because it's looking like it could be one of the biggest video games to come along for a very long time.

Shadow Realms is a new online game by the creators of legendary titles Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

Pitched as a new online action-oriented RPG, the game looks to blend the monsters and levelling-up elements of traditionally fantasy-based games, and bring them into the modern world.

Focused initially on a group of teens with special powers, the game will end up as a mix of co-op missions and exploration between four players, against another human player known as the Shadowlord.

“We want to bring back some of the creativity of a human game master who authors an ever-changing adventure right before you eyes,” said BioWare Austin's Jeff Hickman at the announcement.

“The Shadowlord controls every aspect of the game, possessing, entrapping and destroying. A continuously updated story, embedded in the online adventure, along with an ever-changing world, will ensure that no two trips will play out the same way.”

BioWare said a private beta will begin in September, with the game due for launch in 2015.
