Breastfeeding Mum Ordered To Leave Sports Direct Shop

A mum was asked to leave a branch of Sports Direct because she was breastfeeding her baby.

Wioletta Komar, 25, from Boston, Lancashire, was sitting on a bench inside the Sports Direct store in Clumber Street feeding her three-month-old son, Daniel, when she says staff told her to stop.

The mother-of-two told them she was waiting for her father who was shopping, but claims she was told breastfeeding mums were not welcome in store.

She then left the shop and continued feeding Daniel in the rain on the street.

Wioletta told her local paper, the Nottingham Post, that she contacted the store five times to complain about the incident which happened on January 25, but hasn't received a response

Sports Direct did not comment when approached by the paper.

Speaking about the incident, Wioletta, who is also mum to Wictor, two, said: "My son started crying, so I wanted to feed him. I sat on the bench near the shoe rack.

"The store assistant approached me and said, 'I'm sorry but you will have to go out. You can't feed here. That is our company policy'."

Wioletta said other customers were very kind, and helped her push her buggy outside so she could continue feeding hungry Daniel.

She said what she really wanted was an apology and staff training so other mums didn't have the same treatment. "I would like the staff to be trained better and I would like them to say why it happened. I would like them to apologise.

"It made me feel very upset – I was shaking and I didn't know what to do. I knew that I was allowed to be there, but what could I do?

"It's very shocking. Of course it's knocked my confidence. You don't expect it, never."

Patti Rundall, policy director for Baby Milk Action, told the Nottingham Post: "All mothers have a legally-protected right to breastfeed in public.

"It is important, it's their right and we will do what we can to support them."
