The idea that oils will make skin greasy is one of the greatest myths in beauty. Instead, they are brilliant at conditioning and moisturising plus best of all, a little goes a long way.

Homemade body oils are particularly enriching for the skin. Yes, they require a well-stocked cupboard of essential oils to start with, but this lavender and bergamot recipe is the ultimate soothing treat for dehydrated complexions and once made, it will last for a good six months.

Find out how to make your own skin oil with this extract from the Neal's Yard Remedies expert guide to DIY beauty - Cook, Brew and Blend Your Own Herbs.

A relaxing aromatherapy mix of floral geranium, soothing lavender, calming cypress, and fresh, uplifting bergamot is blended into a skin-nourishing base of different vegetable oils to help restore your skin's suppleness and give it maximum protection from moisture loss.
