Door Crushed 18-Month-Old Girl To Death

An 18-month-old girl has died after a door fell on her as she played.

Talasia Hamm was toddling around outside her family's apartment block in Atlanta when the horrific accident happened.

The little girl had spotted a cat and excitedly made towards it whilst in the care of her grandmother. As she wandered just out of her gran's view, she somehow managed to knock over a door that was leaning against a wall outside a property which was being renovated.

The weight of the burglar-proof door crushed her, causing devastating injuries.

A neighbour told the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution how he heard the little girl cry out.

"I was sitting on the porch on the phone with my wife when I heard a cry and the sound of metal hit the ground," Mario Miller said.

Mr Miller raced to try and help move the door which he said weighed 'at least 50 pounds' and which he struggled to pick up.

Talasia's grandmother called the emergency services, while her father, Justin Hodges, came out of their home to find Mr Miller holding his daughter.

The family decided to drive Talasia to meet the ambulance rather than wait for it to get to them, as her desperate dad gave her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on the way.

Tragically, little Talasia died from her injuries despite being flown from her local hospital to the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston for further treatment.

Officer John Chafee from Atlanta police said it was a terrible accident and no charges will be brought.

Talasia's heartbroken dad paid tribute to her, saying she 'liked to get into stuff'.

"She had this cute little dance she did, rocking side to side. She liked to stomp her feet and have a good time."
