Family's Grief As Toddler Drowns After Falling From Dad's Shoulders Into River

The 18-month-old daughter of a British doctor has died after slipping off her dad's shoulders and falling into a swollen river in India.

Megha Reddy, a Coventry-based anaesthesiologist, was reported have 'screamed' for help as 18-month-old Manvi was pulled under the water and dragged downstream by the raging currents in the River Musi.

Divers mounted a frantic search for the little girl, and her body was eventually found in the water more than four miles away.

The Mail reports that the toddler had been sitting on her dad's shoulders as he took photographs on a bridge over the River Musi during their month-long holiday in India. Her brother's Sanvi, five, and Pramog, 10, were also present.

The 42-year-old doctor and his wife Pratibha were said to be in a 'state of shock' and being looked after by their family after the tragic incident.

The Reddys had stayed on in India after flying out for a family wedding in Hyderabad last month. They were due to return the UK next Wednesday.
