Favourite Children's Books Of 2013

Favourite Children's Books Of 2013

To celebrate National Libraries Day, schoolchildren around the UK voted for their favourite reads.

And the results are in!

A total of 300,144 children in school years one to 11 were asked to vote for their favourite books by Renaissance Learning.

While you'll be unsurprised to hear two Harry Potter tales and the Twilight series made the top 10, there are also a few popular titles missing, most notably the absence of what many parents deem 'the classics'.

There was no ranking for Roald Dahl's Matilda or The BFG, nor for Allan Ahlberg's The Jolly Postman.

However both writers do make it into the top 10 most read authors, which are:

(Joint) 1. Roald Dahl and Jeff Kinney (Diary of a Wimpy Kid)

2. Roderick Hunt (Biff, Chip and Kipper)

3. Francesca Simon (The Sleeping Army)

4. Suzanne Collins (The Hunger Games)

5. J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter)

6. Michael Morpurgo (A medal for Leroy)

7. Allan Ahlberg (The Jolly Postman)

8. Martin Waddell (The Dirty Great Dinosaur)

(Joint) 9. Julia Donaldson and Jacqueline Wilson (Room on the Broom, Tracy Beaker)

10. Louis Sachar (The Boy Who Lost His Face)
