Girl, 16, Arrested After Newborn Baby Died

A 16-year-old girl has been arrested in connection with the death of a newborn baby boy in Lincolnshire.

An autopsy found that the baby died due to 'an obstruction to the airway'.

Police were called to an address in Baston, 12 miles north of Peterborough, in the early hours of Thursday morning and discovered the child's body.

DCI Tony Heydon said: "Although we are unable to release any more detail at this stage we can reassure the public that we are not looking for outstanding suspects, we are simply gathering evidence and piecing together the sequence of events over the last couple of days.

"If anyone thinks they can help our investigation I would urge them to get in touch with us as soon as possible."

The girl is now being held and is helping police with their enquiries.

"At this stage police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident," said a police spokesman.
