Jail For Teacher Pregnant With Special Needs Pupil's Baby

A teacher has admitted she is pregnant after having sex with her 17-year-old special needs student.

Kelly McKenzy Watson, 34, taught the teenager at the residential New Haven Youth and Family Services in Vista, Los Angeles, a facility for emotionally disturbed boys.

Their relationship reportedly started in January 2012, after he had turned 16 and left the school.

Ms Watson was handed down a jail sentence on Wednesday, after pleading guilty to charges of unlawful sex with a minor in November 2012. She did not reveal at the time that she was pregnant.

The teenager was apparently in court to hear Ms Watson's sentencing.

The Union-Tribune reports that Deputy District Attorney Mary Ellen Barrett said the boy cares for Watson, and did not want her to go to jail. She added that he wants to be involved in the life of their child, claiming that he is 'very much in love with her and is looking forward to the baby'.

Judge Laura Halgren gave Watson three years' probation and ordered her to spend time in jail until her due date in April, when she will be freed to deliver her child.

Ms Watson was barred from working with minors in the future and ordered to stay away from the teenager, although it was ruled that he could attend the baby's birth.

As Ms Watson was handcuffed and led after after her sentencing, the teenage boy was said to have become 'emotional'.

Judge Halgren chose not to place Watson on the sex offender register.
