Luis Suárez Appeal: Four-Month Ban Upheld By CAS

Suárez Ban Upheld... But He Can Train With Barça Teammates

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has upheld Luis Suárez's four-month ban for biting Giorgio Chiellini, although he will be able to train with his Barcelona teammates.

Fifa suspended Suárez from all football activities in June after he bit Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay's 1-0 World Cup win against Italy.

Chiellini is the third player Suárez has bitten in his career, after Otman Bakkal and Branislav Ivanović, and his punishment meant Barcelona could not officially unveil him after a £75 million transfer from Liverpool.

However, Suárez can train with his new Barça teammates ahead of a potentially tantalising debut in the Clásico at Real Madrid in late October.

CAS says FIFA's sanctions against Suárez are "generally proportionate to the offence committed", however, the court's panel has ruled the ban on any football-related activity is "excessive."

Suárez's lawyers say they "successfully argued Fifa misapplied its own rules when considering the case and the sanction imposed was disproportionate."
