Mirror Mirror: Carly Hallahan From Jarlo

When Carly Hallahan was pitching up her market stall everyday at 5am in 2008, she didn't imagine one day Keira Knightley would one day be a fan of her designs. Fast forward five years and this girl has gone global with her fashion label Jarlo. She talks Almost Famous, DIY shell bracelets and "pinch me" moments...

When I look in the mirror I see... a girl with flowers in her hair, to me, they're evocative of a more free spirited era! If I could, I'd be transported back to the age of Woodstock and bohemia.

If I were stranded on a desert island with only one dress it would be... a maxi dress, I'd totally embrace the island vibes. Not only would a maxi be appropriate for the climate, but it would also leave me open to a lot of accessorising options. I'd have A LOT of free time to DIY shell bracelets and tropical flower crowns.

When I was at school I wanted to be... a ballerina. I studied ballet full-time throughout secondary school and both my mum and twin sister are dancers, so I've been passionate about it from a young age.

My biggest triumph is... difficult to pin down. I've had several "pinch me" moments, but I think nothing makes me feel more proud than when I'm out and about and see somebody wearing Jarlo - that something I've designed is allowing a woman to express and feel good about herself is incredibly moving.

If I could be any character from film or literature I'd be... Penny Lane from Almost Famous. Aside from her enviable wardrobe, I've always fantasised about a vibrant life on the road; soaking up live music and mixing with an array of unconventional people. Epic!
