My Big Day: Candice &Amp; Adam

For Candice and Adam, the semi-derelict Caroline Gardens Chapel in Peckham where they held their May 2014 wedding ceremony provided more than just an atmospheric backdrop for their nuptials.

Peling blue paint was the basis for their shades-of-blue colour scheme, while the fading grandeur of the backdrop was perfect for conveying the traditional-meets-informal feel the couple was after.

Photographed by London wedding photographer Nasser Gazi, Candice and Adam's big day came together with a lot of DIY work from friends, family and Candice herself, who applied her own make-up, styled her hair and picked up Ivory Avalanche Roses for the bouquets (which she later put together with her bridesmaids) with her mother at New Covent Garden Market in Vauxhall a few days before the nuptials.

Nasser Gazi,

"Don't be afraid to do things yourself like flowers and make-up," Candice advises. "I watched many tutorials online for tips and tricks. You know your hair and face more than anyone so it is nice to have a try, even if it is just for ideas that you may later get a professional to do."

The bride also saved on costs - and got the wedding dress of her dreams - after she scored a secondhand Allure Bridals strapless wedding dress on Gumtree, which she took to Jane Ecob at A Perfect Fit for tailoring. "She changed the dress from a zip-up back to a lace-up bodice, along with taking it up by about a foot as I am only five-feet tall," Candice explains.
