Robin Williams Memorial To Be Built Inside 'World Of Warcraft'

There have already been thousands of heartbreaking tributes to the late actor Robin Williams since his death.

Now the world of games is adding its voice to the massed ranks of the people who he touched and inspired.

Blizzard Entertainment has announced it will create a memorial to Williams inside World Of Warcraft -- a game the actor was known to have played and enjoyed.

Blizzard said in a tweet:

Their response comes after a massive campaign by fans to create a non-player character based on Williams and include it in the game.

A Change.org petition to that effect saw almost 11,000 people sign up to memorialise the beloved actor.

The petition said:

"He was well known for being an extreme PC builder who prefered to build his own overclocked and super-cooled systems. He often joked about his WoW addiction but also about the reactions he'd get from other gamers when he admits he plays the game.

Because of his presence within our community, we the players of World of Warcraft are asking Blizzard to kindly create an NPC within the game that memorializes the actor/comedian. Many have expressed a wish to this character perform some of Williams best jokes within the Worlds End Tavern, so that he may continue making us smile long after his passing."

World of Warcraft fans are perhaps particularly sensitive to popular and famous figures who helped bring the game into the mainstream, since it suffered for so long as a supposedly 'hardcore geek' pursuit.

Jacob Holgate, who started the petition, said that Blizzard assured him the character "will be handled with great care" and be sensitive to Williams' family and fans.
