A fake Father's Day Facebook post from "Ryan Gosling" which recounted how he adopted an orphaned baby for a year has fooled one million users and proved what we already knew to be true - sometimes, people are idiots.
The elaborate story detailed how the Hollywood heart-throb adopted his friend's nine-month-old baby when she passed away from cancer. This caused Facebook users to abandon all sense of reason and write ridiculous comments like, "My ovaries just exploded", "Reason 90636 why you're then most perfect man on the planet!" and "Kid is gonna be pissed when he finds out his dad could've been Ryan gosling".
"This little guy was only nine months old when I became his dad. His mom and I were great friends before she passed away from cancer," the post on a Ryan Gosling fan page read, alongside a picture of him holding a baby.
"I promised her, I'd always look after him. So, I had decided to step up and become his dad.
"He brought me so much joy. He was my everything. One year later after the adoption, his biological father wanted him. Of course, I put up a fight, but he won. That one year of being his father taught me how to love unconditionally."
At the time of writing, the post had garnered over 925,000 Likes, amassed almost 22,000 comments and had been shared upwards of 51,000. Surely this only goes to show people will believe anything if there's a picture of Ryan Gosling next to it.
Now if you really want to feel shit about the state of humanity, make sure you tune into Big Brother on tonight where housemates can be seen making statements such as "I'm a thick-skinned ruthless backbone" and "her face was like a poker".
