A schoolboy has been arrested on suspicion of murder after his mother was found dead in the family home.
Police discovered the 43-year-old victim with severe head injuries and a chest wound inside a flat in Bow, East London.
Her son, believed to be 15 years old, was arrested at the scene and was being questioned by detectives.
Detectives and forensics officers were seen gathering evidence at the housing authority tower block.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: "Police were called to reports of a serious assault.
"Officers found a 43-year-old-woman suffering from severe head injuries and a wound to her chest. "London Ambulance Service attended. The woman was pronounced dead a short while later.
"A male youth - at this stage believed to be a teenager - was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and has been taken to an east London police station.
"Enquiries are continuing. Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident."
