This Massive Fort On The Thames Could Be Yours For £500,000

Buy This Fort On The Thames And Embrace Your Inner Bond Villain

Ever wanted to live in your own fort? This place, boasting spectacular sea views, could be own seven-bedroom mansion, but you may need to do it up a bit first.

The abandoned fort, which is within commuting distance of central London, has just come onto the market for £500,000, just above the average property price in the capital.

There is one small catch, you will need a boat to access the property, as it is on the Thames Estuary, or to wait until the tide is low. The postman will have fun trying to deliver to your new address: "No 1, The Thames".

When the tide is out, you can walk across this causeway to get there

The abandoned fort, built around 1855, was bought from the Crown Estate by a builder, Simon Cooper, who is understood to have not had the time or money to fix up the place.

You will be able to save on an Oyster card for your commute into London, but you may have to shell out to buy a speed boat instead, with central London estimated to be just a 45 minute ride away.

But the possibilities for the potential buyer are endless. Estate agent Nigel Day, who is marketing the property, told the Huffington Post UK that it could appeal to a "huge amount of people for different reasons".

"There'll be people who'll want to update it and make it into a main residence, or an offshore hotel," he said. "You could make it a wildlife sanctuary, or a houseboat community, or a film location, or even rent it out for parties. It could be anything you want."

There is a risk that the property, near Sheerness, could have its view spoiled if London Mayor Boris Johnson gets to build his "Boris Island" airport on the nearby Isle of Grain.
