Three-Year-Old Boy Accidentally Shot Himself Dead At Neighbour's House

A three-year-old boy has died after accidentally shooting himself while at a neighbour's house.

The toddler is thought to have grabbed a loaded gun from a bedside cabinet after following the male resident into a bedroom at the house in Lonoke County, Arkansas, on Sunday afternoon.

The county's news website reports that as the man was taking out his contact lenses, the little boy pulled the gun's trigger, fatally injuring himself.

Lieutenant Jim Kulsea told local reporters that guns must be kept out of the reach of children.

"Any gun, doesn't matter if it has a safety or not, make sure it's not anywhere where a child can reach it or get to it," he said.

Detectives at Lonoke County Sheriff's Office are said to believe the little boy's death was a tragic accident, but are carrying out investigations. The district attorney will decide if any charges should be filed.
