Twerk It Girl: Meet The 'Twerk Scholar' Who's Made A Documentary All About Miley's Favourite Move

Self-proclaimed "twerk scholar" Kimari Brand is the focus of a new documentary all about the dance move brought to universal fame by former teeny bopper and Disney star Miley Cyrus.

Twerk It Girl twerks for empowerment and is on a butt-shaking mission to tear down the negative associations that come with the dance move.

According to Elite Daily, "twerking has a negative connotation for no reason" and Kimari is sick and tired of it.

Ashley Reed, simply titled "feminist" in the documentary, explains why she believes twerking is a gender issue.

"It falls under this whole idea of what is and isn't okay for women to do... A lot of the people who criticise twerking because it's not 'ladylike' without realising that calling something 'ladylike' or attributing any behaviour to what's ideal for women is problematic.

"While women are twerking people are going to talk about whether it's proper or improper to do so."

Kimari herself lays blame on Miley Cyrus for making twerking seem "highly sexualised and disgusting" and aims to take her performance to the streets to show Joe Public it's not all about bubble butts and bumping and grinding.
