Victoria Beckham's eponymous fashion empire is a global operation and her collections are pure luxe on every level, every season.

But the 40-year-old, mother-of-four has revealed "for a long time there I was a bit of a laughing stock" in an interview with The Business of Fashion magazine.

"And while everybody was busy laughing, what was I doing? I was laying the foundation to what I have in place now."

While VB's Posh days circa the Spice Girls are a thing of the past she tells the mag being a celeb moving into the fashion world received some pretty harsh criticism.

"Everybody said, 'Well it's never going to work because a celebrity can't do a line [but because] everyone thought it was going to be rubbish [it took] the pressure off a little bit".

Speaking about before she released her first line of dresses: Beckham said: "There were no expectations. I didn't expect it to be any other way. I didn't go into this to prove anything to anybody other than myself."

Not only does VB know the score when it comes to power dressing women, but she's elegant and ever-immaculate in her role as fashion entrepreneur, and controls every aspect of her business and her position in the limelight.

"I like to try to control how much I'm seen. I don't want to go out and be photographed every day, you know," she said.
