With the transfer window open for just five more days the rumours are starting to get that bit more bizarre. Case in point: Joe Allen to Manchester United.

Allen and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers are an inseparable pair and it is difficult to envisage Rodgers getting rid of the Welshman after two ambivalent seasons with Liverpool. Allen had an underrated impact 2013-14.

No one has moved between the East Lancs rivals since Phil Chisnall 50 years ago and United want - and need - Arturo Vidal more. Shinji Kagawa and Javier Hernández - both nicknamed "makeweight" these days - could be offered to Juventus for Vidal.

United have asked former goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar to act as an intermediary in an effort to bring Daley Blind in from Ajax.

Down south, and Olivier Giroud's injury could force Arsène Wenger to go all out for Edinson Cavani, who would cost around £50m. Danny Welbeck is a cheaper alternative and Wenger is still mulling over Loïc Rémy or a loan deal for Radamel Falcao.

However, now Angel di María has joined United Real are confident of financing a deal for Monaco striker Falcao.

And Tottenham will sign Sevilla captain Federico Fazio after triggering his £8m buy-out clause but, rather alarmingly, they are also keen on former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song.
