USB 'Condom' Protects Your Phone From Promiscuous Computers

There's A Digital Condom For Your iPhone

Experts have created a 'digital condom' for USB cables which will protect your phone or tablet when it's plugged into a computer.

With more and more people having to charge their smartphone on the go, security experts have warned of the risks involved when just plugging your smartphone into any old computer.

While a power socket is safe, a computer also acts as a data transfer conduit so while your phone may be charging, a piece of software could also be hacking into your phone and gaining access to personal data.

This 'digital condom' protects against this by clipping onto the end of the USB cable before you plug it into the computer.

Because a USB cable keeps the power wires and the data wires separate, the 'condom' cuts off the data connection only allowing the computer to provide power instead.

The device is in the very early stages of production but you can bag a 'naked' unit for just $10 or if you prefer, buy them in bulk for all your cables.
