You Might Never Have Noticed How Sexist Video Games Really Are

'Tropes vs. Women in Video Games' is a long-running and thoughtful series of videos exploring the nature and extent of sexism in modern video games.

The most recent instalment in Anita Sarkeesian's Kickstarted series ('Women as Background Decoration: Part 2') looks specifically into the literal background of some of the biggest games in the world. It reveals the dark, incredible reality of how women are depicted so often as the victims of sexual violence or exploitation.

Watch the video below, or head over to Polygon to read an interested and surprisingly good discussion of the topic in the comments.

Unfortunately the reaction elsewhere has been predictably intense, with Sarkeesian reporting on Twitter that she has received threats of violence since the video went online.
