'Strictly Come Dancing': Judy Murray Talks Showing Off Her Fun Side, Artem Chigvintsev And Her High Heels Fear

'Doing 'Strictly' Will Show People I'm Good Fun'

Judy Murray has said she’s hoping her time on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ will show off the more fun side of her character.

The tennis coach, who has been vocal about her love of ‘Strictly’ for a number of years now, announced that she will be taking part in the upcoming series last month, posing for a Twitter picture with one of the show’s scoring paddles and a tennis ball.

Speaking to HuffPost UK at the launch of this year’s series in London, Judy said: “I think anybody who knows me knows that I’m very lively and good fun - well I hope I’m good fun - and doing something like this definitely lets people see that you’re up for a bit of family entertainment!”

Judy also admitted she was disappointed to have not been able to dance with Artem Chigvintsev, the former ‘Strictly’ pro dancer whose “pecs appeal” she’s been vocal about in the past, because he’s taking part in the American version of the show, ‘Dancing With The Stars’, instead.

She joked: “I’m absolutely devastated, I told him, ‘what are you doing? Can’t you come back?’ But all the pros are phenomenal, so I don’t care who I have to dance with. I’m going to love every minute of it.”

However, Judy did admit that one thing she was less looking forward to about the competition was the footwear she’ll be wearing when she hits the dancefloor, adding: “I think the biggest challenge for me apart from getting the steps and the sequence right is the heels.

“I’m definitely a tracksuit and trainers, baggy tops and jeans type so I think for me killer heels take on a whole new meaning when I try and dance in them.”

The brand new series of ‘Strictly’ kicks off on 21 September, and will also feature Mark Wright, Frankie Bridge and former ‘Xtra Factor’ star Caroline Flack.
