New York Fashion Week Kicks Off

New York is the first city to kick off the global fashion week schedule of clothes, celebrities and lots of champagne-swilling.

Even though it only officially started today, the city has already hosted plenty of New York Fashion Week parties and the first handful of catwalk shows...

The stars so far? Carolina Herrera (who will be showing on Monday at 10am Eastern time) devotees Renee Zellweger and Lucy Liu showed their support of the fashion week favourite by donning her elegant designs at the 2014 Couture Council Award Luncheon Benefit in her honour at the Museum at FIT.

Selena Gomez worked the sporty-luxe trend in a black jumpsuit and heeled trainers to kick off the Adidas Neo show, while Kate Mara did monochrome at the H&M party in a black coat-dress and white brogues.

And our favourite fash-week fixture, Alexa Chung, looked amazing in a feathered mini-dress at the Christiano Siriano fragrance launch party for his new scent, Silhouette.

As for the fashions? Nicholas K, Richard Chai LOVE and BCBG Max Azria - with an abundance of feminine, floaty silhouettes in pretty pastel and neutral hues - all had their catwalk shows today to kick off the week.

Fun fact? This season, for the first time, Max Azria's BCBG and Hervé Leger shows are "shoppable" (post a catwalk image to Instagram and consumers who "Like" it will be sent an email with a link to buy the items featured). Talk about fashion at your fingertips...

Don't miss all of our daily fashion week updates and the highlights of the week (gorgeous dresses at Monique Lhuillier Friday evening at 7pm, funky streetwear at DKNY Sunday at 1pm, prepster chic at Tory Burch and J.Crew on Tuesday and American sportswear heavyweights Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein on Thursday) and check out the slideshow below for all of the highlights from day one.
