TV Choice Awards: Danny Dyer Launches Foul-Mouthed Rant At David Mitchell During Best Soap Actor Acceptance Speech

Danny Launches Foul-Mouthed Rant At David Mitchell

Danny Dyer took home the Best Soap Actor prize at the TV Choice Awards in London on Monday night, though the ‘EastEnders’ star seemed like he was in a far from celebratory mood.

In fact, rather than getting excited about his big win, Danny took the opportunity during his acceptance speech to pan presenter David Mitchell, launching into an expletive-laden rant about the ‘Peep Show’ actor.

Well it wouldn’t be an award show without a toe-curlingly awkward moment, would it?

As Danny went up to collect his prize, there appeared to be some confusion over whether or not the award actually belonged to him, after he was filmed asking presenter David Mitchell, who seemed totally perplexed as to what was going on: "David Mitchell is this f***ing mine?"

Danny was then heard saying: “Can’t believe I won this - and he’s f***ed without his script, giving it the big ‘un. Have a look at your f***ing script. Thank you, Mr. Mitchell. Thank you, have a f***ing good night.”

Overlooking Danny’s bizarre speech, it was a great night for ‘EastEnders’, taking home the Best Soap award as well as Best Soap Actress for Lindsey Coulson, who triumphed over ‘Coronation Street’ star Julie Hesmondhalgh, who played Hayley Cropper until the character’s death from pancreatic cancer earlier this year.

Danny first joined ‘EastEnders’ as Mick Carter, the new landlord of the Queen Vic pub, at the tail-end of last year, having previously been best known for his roles in ‘The Football Factory’ and ‘Mean Machine’.

Other big winners at this year’s TV Choice Awards were Sarah Lancashire, whose role in ‘Happy Valley’ earned her the Best Actress prize, while Benedict Cumberbatch sent his parents on his behalf to collect his award for Best Actor.
