Dell Venue 8 7000 Series Is The World's Thinnest Tablet (For Now)

The World's Thinnest Tablet Is Just Insane

While the rest of the world was still digesting Apple's news, the world's most advanced tablet might just have been announced by an unlikely name in modern tech.

Dell.

And no, we're not kidding.

The erstwhile laptop giant unveiled the Dell Venue 8 7000 Series at the 2014 Intel Developers Conference in San Francisco. And while it might have the worst name in tablet history, it might also have the coolest feature set.

Here's what interesting about this machine.

  • It's the world's thinnest tablet at just 6mm - thinner than the iPhone 6.
  • The display - an 8.4-inch, 2560 x 1600 OLED panel - is ridiculously good, on a par with the Samsung Tab S.
  • There's no bezel.
  • The tablet has four cameras - on on the front, and three on the back to let you take photos which you can refocus after shooting. They can even let the tablet work out real-world distances, measuring a room for you for instance if you're redecorating.
  • It has a quad-core 2.33GHz Intel Atom Z3580 processor (which is very good)

In effect, this is a straightforward stock Android tablet with some amazing features, a great screen and a market-leading profile which should be right up there on your list as long as (a) you want an Android tablet and (b) it's actually ever released in the UK.

Price and availability aren't known for the UK right now, but we imagine somewhere close to an iPad Mini Retina is roughly accurate.
