Prince Harry and a star-studded cast smashed and bumped their way into the hearts of Invictus Games spectators tonight when they clashed in a game of wheelchair rugby. The fast-paced contact sport also known as murderball saw no quarter asked or given as the opposing sides played an exhibition match. A sell-out crowd of more than 6,000 were left screaming and cheering in delight during the game - the highlight of the second day of the Invictus Games, an international sporting spectacle for wounded servicemen and women. After visiting the Games, Prime Minister David Cameron said it could become a permanent fixture and that other countries had expressed an interest in hosting the event.
He told Forces TV: "I found it an incredibly moving ceremony and I think what's important now is to try and secure it for the future. And what's exciting is that other countries are now coming forward and saying 'we would like to host an Invictus Games as well', and I think there's every chance that this can become a real institution and a huge achievement for Prince Harry.'' During the match Harry and his Invictus team mates, who included his cousin Zara Phillips and former England rugby star Jason Robinson, took on team Endeavour. Their opponents featured Zara's husband, Mike Tindall, another ex-England rugby player, and Olympians Dame Kelly Holmes and Denise Lewis.
Standing on the sidelines during the match held at the Copper Box arena was rugby legend Jonny Wilkinson, manager of Harry's team, and his opposite number former England rugby manager Sir Clive Woodward. Harry's team were the eventual winners 8 - 6 in the hard-fought contest that saw players make crunching tackles and wheelchairs turn over.
