Revelations that the Queen reportedly "purred down the line" to David Cameron following the announcement of the result of the Scottish referendum were met by a raft of humour, disbelief and plenty of scorn on Twitter.
In recent weeks the so-called “cybernats” have attacked anyone speaking out against
Independence, however news of the Queen’s reaction was perhaps so bizarre that even the most vociferous anti-Union campaigner was lost for words.
Here’s the best reaction to the story:
Cameron says the Queen ‘purred’ on the phone. Are we sure he didn’t call George Galloway? #wouldyoulikemetobethecat— SimonNRicketts (@SimonNRicketts) September 23, 2014
"I am so relieved, Mr Cameron", the Queen purred softly, alive with regal joy.
He was strong, silent. He was still her Prime Minister.— Stig Abell (@StigAbell) September 23, 2014
So the Queen purred down the line at lies keeping her subjects in food bank queues & many children being robbed of a free education. 😔😿— Lisa (@AlbaTwanda) September 23, 2014
The Queen "purred down line" at Cameron over Scotland. George Galloway purred at Rula Lenska over on Channel 4. Oh how the other half live.— Richard Wilson (@timomouse) September 23, 2014
The Queen 'purred down the phone' to David Cameron when he told her it was a no vote. I've just been sick in my mouth.— Liam Kerr (@OurLiam) September 23, 2014
