Spaxels are drone-based LED lights which can be remotely programmed to spell out messages or shapes in the sky.
No, you can't wear them on your wrist. But they're still pretty neat.
They've been in use since 2012 but pop up regularly on social media sites and blogs, as new people find out about the idea and realise that we are, in fact, already living in the future.
The team behind them describes the idea as follows:
"Spaxels (a portmanteau word from space pixels) are LED-equipped quadcopters. They make up a drone swarm that can “draw” three-dimensional figures in midair. They create an extraordinary visual experience and open up an unprecedented new dimension of aesthetic expression."
