Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has ruffled feathers by trimming his moustache in a style some have interpreted as being reminiscent of Adolf Hitler.
Enrique tweeted a picture of himself with the new facial hair, alongside girlfriend Amy Jaine.
He wrote: “Surprised my girlfriend with a new style of beard this morning, she didn’t like it very much… hahahahaha.”
The controversial snap had been retweeted more than a thousand times by midday on Wednesday with many expressing disbelief at the perceived insensitivity of the stunt.
Joakim tweeted: “I hope you don’t go any Jewish followers,” while Roy Morre wrote: “Oh dear! Hope you check up on your history after this #hitler”

However some tweeters failed to see the resemblance to the Fuhrer.
Morenike Adebayo described it as “a Charlie Chaplin”, while Peter LFC decided: “You look like a French waiter.”
