'X Factor' Boyband Overload Generation Fire Back At Simon Cowell: 'Our Performance Wasn't As Bad As Judges Made Out'

'Our Performance Wasn't As Bad As They Made Out'

X Factor’ boyband Overload Generation have hit back at Simon Cowell, following their elimination from the singing competition.

The young hopefuls were booted out of the series in a shock double-elimination with Blonde Electra, with Simon saying he couldn’t support them because their performance of Christina Perri’s ‘A Thousand Years’ was “shockingly bad” and he had “no faith” in them.

During an interview on ‘This Morning’ on Monday, singer Joey Devries told presenters Phillip Schofield and Amanda Holden: “Well [on] Saturday night we did give it our all. I don’t think it was as bad as they made it out to be - when we got back and watched it back, it weren’t that bad.”

“We were going to bring more the week after but obviously…”

The group were brought back to the competition by Mel B as her “wildcard” act, having originally been ditched by Louis Walsh during the “six chair challenge”.

Both Overload Generation and eight-piece boyband Stereo Kicks (surely one of the weakest ‘X Factor’ band names ever?) performed Katy Perry tracks on Saturday night, with Simon claiming in his critique that he thought Stereo Kicks “blew [Overload Generation] out of the water”.

However, the band are undeterred and despite leaving during the first week of live shows, band member Ollie Garland teased fans with the news that new material was on the way.

He admitted: “We were gutted but we’ve had a night to sleep on it and I think the thing for us is that we didn’t get to perform more of our original stuff like we did [at] Wembley… but that’s all going to change in the upcoming year - we’ve got our single ‘No No No’ out in April so we’re looking forward to that.”

The 14 remaining ‘X Factor’ acts, including Andrea Faustini and Chloe Jasmine, will be singing a selection of 80s tracks this weekend, with Maroon 5 and Jessie J also performing live on Sunday night.
