Sir Chris Hoy and his wife Sarra are proud parents to a baby boy.

Sarra gave birth to a son - the couple's first child - 11 weeks early today (Wednesday, October 15). The couple have named their new arrival Callum David Robert.

Chris announced the news on Twitter with the message:

The Olympian added that although Callum was early, he is 'doing well'. He then went on to thank all the medical staff for their help and support:

Speaking to Parentdish just two days before Callum's birth, Chris revealed that Sarra was actually due on December 27, and that they didn't have any ideas on a name.

"We are very excited but remarkably calm," he said. "Sarra is doing really well. She is due on December 27, so we're having a Christmas baby. At the moment we're just concentrating on getting everything ready, reading the books, getting his or her room ready."Every name we find a name we either know someone called that or associate it with someone. There's so much to think about - will they like it, will it end up rhyming with something awful in the playground.

"He or she can't have a name beginning with A as then they will be 'A-Hoy!"

Congratulations Chris and Sarra!
