‘X Factor' Review: Lauren Platt And Andrea Faustini Impress During Movie Week (VIDEO)

Lauren Takes The Lead Role In 'X Factor' Movie Week

Once again, Andrea Faustini impressed on Saturday night’s ‘X Factor’, with a powerful rendition of Beyonce’s ‘Listen’, though he wasn’t the only hopeful to show promise.

Lauren Platt, who’s being mentored by Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, also wowed the audience and viewers at home, with her take on ‘Let It Go’, from the record-breaking film ‘Frozen’.

Sadly though, things took a while to get going and the task of opening the show fell to Jake Quickenden, who performed ‘She’s Like The Wind’, though he couldn’t quite manage the track’s high notes.

As usual, the judges don’t hold back with their comments and Simon Cowell happily declares that he reckons Jake could be going home this week, while Cheryl brands the performance “dull”.

Next up it’s Only The Young, who’ve had a dramatic week and only decided which track to perform just 24 hours before.

While their rendition of ‘Boom Clap’ - by Charli XCX and from the film ‘The Fault In Our Stars’ - is a hit, the youngsters are clearly feeling the pressure, having spent what looks like a lot of time at war with their mentor.

Jay James’ take on ‘Skyfall’ followed, and while his performance was received a good reception, it was hard not to compare it to Adele’s (far better) original.

Then, it’s Andrea’s turn. He’s bloomin’ brilliant, isn’t he?

Louis declares his performance as “faultless, effortless and amazing”, before Cheryl’s comments are drowned out by cheers from the studio audience.

Simon took an interesting approach to critique and comments that it’s like he’s eaten five donuts, but feels like he’s had six. No, we don’t get it either.

Lola Saunders’ VT revealed that she’s been given a makeover by Cheryl this week, and her take on ‘When You Believe’ is great, though sadly the youngster (she used to be a fishmonger, y’know! It’s barely been mentioned!) is still lacking in self-confidence.

Paul Akister then gave his best performance of the series, with a rendition of Otis Redding's ‘Try A Little Tenderness’, that sees him accompanied by Stevi’s troupe of scantily-clad female dancers, before Lauren takes to the stage.

At this point, Cheryl decides she can’t bear sitting next to Simon anymore and switches seats with Louis Walsh.

The pair have been disagreeing (as usual) throughout the whole show, though it’s not really any worse than in previous weeks.

It was then time for Mel to introduce Jack Walton, whose taking on one of the best-known movie tracks of all-time - ‘Eye Of The Tiger’ from ‘Rocky’.

However, Jack’s decision to slow down the track and bring out his acoustic guitar leaves his performance feeling slightly lacklustre and according to Mel, there’s been some last minute changes that she didn’t agree with.

Eeeek - crossing Scary Spice?! That’s one brave boy.

Fleur East’s rendition of ‘Lady Marmalade’ is a hit, surely scoring her a place in next week’s show, while Stevi’s version of ‘Footloose’ is everything you’d expect it to be.

We’re actually starting to like him to be honest. There, we said it.

Stereo Kicks are up next - and they’ve given in and picked a lead singer - woo!

Their mash-up of ‘Hey Jude’ and ‘Let It Be’ may have dubious ties to the movie world, but its a success nonetheless and the eight-piece are finally looking more like a band than a choir.

Finally, the task of closing the show goes to Ben Haenow, who receives reasonably positive comments, though weirdly, his mentor Simon decides to publicly disagree with his song choice - ‘I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing’.

While Cheryl feels the song slightly lacked emotion, Si reckons the track - picked by Ben - didn’t do anything to set him apart from the rest of the competition.

If either Cheryl or Louis lose an act in tonight’s results show, they’ll be down to just one remaining hopeful.

Tonight’s show will include performances from Ed Sheeran and OneRepublic.

‘The X Factor: Results Show’ is on ITV at 8pm.
