'Interstellar' Star Jessica Chastain Reveals She'd Love To Make A Rom-Com, But One Where The Girl Doesn't Get The Guy

The Only Type Of Rom-Com Jessica Chastain Likes

Jessica Chastain has been feted for her impressive work in a series of big budget dramas from 'The Help' to 'Zero Dark Thirty', but the Oscar-nominated actress reveals she'd love to make a rom-com.

One of the stars of Christopher Nolan's sci-fi epic 'Interstellar' out this week, Jessica tells HuffPostUK:

"I watch all rom-coms. I like ones that are slightly different, though. I love 'My Best Friend's Wedding' and the ones where the girl doesn't get the guy.

Jessica Chastain starred with Octavia Spencer in 'The Help'

"I just saw one with my friend Nikolaj (Coster-Waldau, 'Game of Thrones'), we did 'Mama' together, and he's in 'The Other Woman'. I saw it twice. It's comedy gold.

"So I'm all for a rom-com. Definitely, I'd put my hand up for that."

Despite this, and in contrast to her co-stars Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain hasn't had to pull off a dramatic swerve in her career. Despite relatively few years in the top billing position of a film, she's carved out a niche for herself as a heavyweight lead, capable of carrying a film as gruelling as 'Zero Dark Thirty'. How's she managed it?

"I think it’s that I started in this industry because I loved movies so much," she ponders. "I was there for the opening night for 'Birdman', in the crowd, waiting at the end of the line, everyone was giving me strange looks.

"I’m an audience member first, and I love going to see films, I love watching actors and directors. I see as much as I can, I find great directors I want to work with, and maybe that has helped in my career."

Like Anne Hathaway, who told HuffPostUK 'Interstellar' was - literally - the best cinematic experience of her life, Jessica is impressed by the film as much as a viewer as someone who participated in it.

"Christopher Nolan is so visual, there were certain sequences, I realised when I read the script that they would come to life.

"But when I first saw the film, I couldn’t really speak afterwards, it was such an incredible experience."

'Interstellar' is in UK cinemas from this Friday 7 November. Watch the trailer below...
