Wondering how to pull off a themed wedding without going over-the-top?
Take a leaf from Lucy and Dan's Lewis Carroll-inspired wedding notebook: the couple opted for a traditional ceremony at the St James Catholic Church in Twickenham when they exchanged their vows on 8 August, 2014, followed by a playful and colourful Alice in Wonderland-themed reception at The Lensbury Club in Teddington.
Photographed by Tony Cullinane, the bride and groom had fun integrating their theme throughout several aspects of their wedding day, with a summery and pastel colour scheme and plenty of inspired details like "Drink me" favours, teapots full of flowers, teacup candles, jam tarts, playing cards and mini "paint the roses red" rose trees.
Even Lucy got in on the action with her wedding footwear, opting for Victorian lace-up Alice boots from Perditas Wedding Shoes under her Maggie Sottero gown.
"Decide what you definitely want, but allow ideas to adapt and change as the planning goes on," she advises.
Allow for the unexpected to happen, too: when the CD player in the church didn't work, it led to a memorable moment as Lucy and Dan walked down the aisle and out of the church as a married couple.

"Our guests all sang my favourite hymn and it was even better," says Lucy.
