In the most hilarious relationship news ever, a man has faked his own kidnapping to get out of seeing his girlfriend. And then he got arrested for it.

Karma's a bitch.

Justin Sarten, 22, simply wanted a night out with the lads. So, he decided that rather than tell his girlfriend the truth - that he didn't want to see her and would much prefer to hang with the dudes - he would instead text her saying he'd been kidnapped.

Being the concerned girlfriend that she was, Sarten's other half called the police in a frenzy and, as is often required of law enforcers, they were called out to investigate the issue.

Some time later, they found the 22-year-old chilling in a store with his pals (aka the horrid kidnappers) who were blatantly not holding him against his will.

The authorities later issued the following statement:

Last night, four law enforcement agencies and our resources were spent in an attempt to quickly and safely rescue [Sarten], who we believed may have been kidnapped," said Sheriff Paul Babeu.

"Upon learning of his reckless behavior, which frightened his family and diverted our resources from other emergency calls, suspect Sarten learned that there are serious consequences for crying wolf with law enforcement."

Moral of the story: don't try to fake your own kidnapping. And if you're going to, pick somewhere less lame than a convenience store.
