Poo Powered Bus Takes To Bristol Streets

Bristol Rolls Out Poo-Powered Bus

Wessex Water has unveiled a bus that can run solely on fuel derived from human poo.

The bus runs solely on biomethane gas which is extracted from human waste (and food that is indigestible by humans).

Introducing the bus is part of a wider plan by Wessex Water and its subsidiary GENeco to turn human waste into reusable energy.

Nearly seven years in development the project is now reaching its conclusion and has resulted in a collection system that can create enough biomethane to power 8,500 homes and, of course, the poo bus.

GENeco general manager Mohammed Saddiq said to the Bristol post:

“Gas powered vehicles have an important role to play in improving air quality in UK cities, but the Bio-Bus goes further than that and is actually powered by people living in the local area, including quite possibly those on the bus itself.

“Using biomethane in this way not only provides a sustainable fuel, but also reduces our reliance on traditional fossil fuels.”
